The Form Armchair combines a strong design with comfortable curves and an innovative production technique.

The goal was to create a chair with a cohesive and unified look as well as a natural integration between seat and base. Combining function, aesthetic and a simple Scandinavian design, this Form armchair is crafted from a steel frame blended with a choice of 3 plastic seat colors.

The moulded shell is based on well thought out curves, which follow the body and ensure optimal sitting comfort. For example, the seat is wider so as to accommodate various body types. It also gives you room to change your position so you sit comfortably for a longer period of time.

Perfectly suited to furnish your dining room or office.

Product Story

Simon Legald, the designer of Normann Copenhagen's Form Chair, states “I had an idea of what the ideal chair should look like, and I have had this for many years.”

Often, the perfect vision of a finished project can be so clear in the mind of both designers and product buyers, professional and individual. But with such a specific vision, it can be impossible to find function and long-lasting quality in the perfect piece. Legald went through 20 different prototypes with a variety of angles, curves, colours and thicknesses in developing the Form series of chair, armchair and barstool. The end result is a tribute to the importance and elegance of form, as the performance of an Olympic gymnast, every movement and curve is a well-thought-out.

The goal was to create a chair with a cohesive and unified look as well as a natural integration between seat and base.

In order to achieve this, Normann Copenhagen has developed an innovative and sleek mounting solution consisting of four moulded plastic connectors, which fit perfectly to the seat of the shell. A great deal of effort has also gone into colouring the moulded connectors and the steel bases, in order to match the shells perfectly.

Simon Legald graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products. Simon’s designs are often created in a dialogue between craftsmanship and industry. He also likes to incorporate the techniques that are necessary for the structure of a product into the design by highlighting them visually.

“Honesty is what makes a product understandable and is what describes the products functionality. If you understand the product, it does not need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore, it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects and makes them trustworthy. In my design, I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
