Product Story

The Marset Ginger Portable Table Lamp, designed by Joan Gaspar features an extraordinarily lightweight light disk, paying tribute to the drums of Ginger Baker of Cream, the 1960s rock band.

With this collection, Gaspar resolves the challenge of using wood – a material that is so hard to mould, yet is desirable to use due to its strong associations with cozy lighting. He manages to achieve ultimate simplicity by using a design and method with great complexity.

This particular version comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery located in the base of the lamp, which allows for wireless, portable, independent illumination.

"What makes a product good or not so good, depends on the designer and in great part on the firm that produces it and, above all, on how it produces it, how it launches it into the market, how it communicates it, and how it promotes it. Among all of these 'how', I would stand out the 'how it produces it'. Technical solutions and the materials that are used determine the image and functionality of the product, there lies its success or its failure," states Joan Gaspar.
